The Region

There is a place, in Tuscany, where the sky and the earth seem to touch each other, the darkness of the night is so deep, and the area appears so extensive that you feel small, when the sun’s rays extend over the gentle slopes of the terraced hills and the vast plains furrowed by vineyards and olive groves of the Maremma.

Scansano is a small town in the province of Grosseto (Toscana) with 4.340 inhabitants. The town is very famous thanks to to the connection with the Morellino di Scansano DOCG wine denomination, famous red wine produced in the area.

The slow pace of work in the fields in this unique land and the character of its people, strong and reserved, sincere and hospitable, reminded Alberto of the old, ritual gestures of his grandparents and motivated him to move from Chianti to Grosseto, in the heart of the real, authentic Maremma.

The sixteenth-century Villa Sforzesca, renovated as a farm by the grand dukes of Tuscany, testifies to the ancient and prestigious agricultural vocation of the countryside surrounding the small town of Pomonte, nestled in the varied, rich ecosystem that is the land of the DOCG Morellino di Scansano.

Poggio Spinelli is the name of the area where the vineyards, which are now under Alberto’s care, are located.

An altitude of 380 metres above sea level and the breeze that blows constantly from the Tyrrhenian Sea contribute to the formation of a real microclimate, with very little rain, mild winters and extremely hot summers.

The terroir of Poggio Spinelli has the general characteristics of the region but also has features that distinguish it from most of the Morellino lands. Like threads drawn together in a special way, the dry and windy climate that has promoted the use of this area for wine production and the skeleton-rich soil are reflected in the character of the wines, bringing to life an unexpected interweaving of refined and compelling design.
